Our Canada Tea Towel — featuring a maple leaf design by Canadian textile artist Wendy Brownie — was initially produced on the looms of Europe's
Le Jacquard Français for Canada’s 150th birthday.
“Maple trees are one of Canada’s national symbols. They exist in every province and territory,” says Brownie, whose design was inspired by the Bigleaf maple trees she observed while visiting Canada’s West Coast.
The original Canada Tea Towel sold out almost instantly. Due to popular demand, we commissioned a timeless version of the iconic towel.
“We are pleased to let you know that we are making a donation from the Canada Tea Towel sale to Indspire — a reputable charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people 'for the long term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities and Canada,'" says Brownie.
“I’ve always said tea towels are the workhorses of our kitchens. This tea towel is a reminder that while we can love our country, we can also recognize that we as a nation have work to do.”
Brownie was originally inspired to create the tea towel during a visit to Tofino, British Columbia where she found a giant leaf on the ground from a Bigleaf maple tree near Sobo, her favourite restaurant in the small Vancouver Island surf town.
She brought it back with her to where she was staying at
The Wickaninnish Inn. There, she would sketch out the original tea towel design using the impressive leaf as inspiration.
Playfully referred to as “The Tea Towel Queen of the World” by local media in Calgary given her impressive textiles expertise, the owner of
inspirati not only designs and sells the highest quality
tea towels available on the market, but she also offers people the rare opportunity to design (in house at inspirati) quality
tea towels of their own.
She does this in collaboration with her design team in France at Le Jacquard Français for individuals, organizations and businesses looking to
create their own custom tea towel.
Canada’s award-winning
Post Hotel & Spa, for example, collaborated with Brownie on
this linen/cotton tea towel — which has been used to help raise funds for charity, to gift loyal clientele and to give guests the option of purchasing a quality souvenir from their hotel stay.
